american cherry "iT" CD-R
This week, a record quite different from my usual reviews. American Cherry is indeed a japanese duo comprising a female singer and a musician/producer/crazy mixer) creating one of the most unique & charming lounge music i ever heard.
Imagine a childish voice singing original and/or classic songs including Marilyn Monroe or even Serge Gainsbourg covers mixed with exotica lo-fi music.
What however distinguishes this band from any other easy listening-like young posses is the mix of a female whispering lovely voice with noises of all kinds + bad arrangments + toys keyboard in a poppy shambolic ambience. The over-used lo-fi term becomes here a pleasant and cheerful reality.
On that album, the songs titles range from "Hello Kitty" (rhytmic box regalia) to "Happy Heart" (latino-esque summer song)....I can swear it, this music posses eventually one true power : to make you feel joyful !
Obviously their productions are home-made CD-R and this one is a charming kitsch pink CD-R.
CD-R (2001)- time: 17.00
